Our History
Founded in 1999 to charter for the needs of the Kuku Community in the USA and Canada. Many of the people were refugees and therefore face challenges in getting settled and finding a community similar to their home country. The SSKNA focused initially on social events by bringing people together on such occasions as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Labor Day and Memorial Day. Every meeting fostered the need to build our community association to formally address issues pertaining to our community here in the USA and back in Sudan and those in refugee camps in Uganda. The association would resolve family issues before they are escalated to law enforcement. Sensitize our community on the laws of the United States with regards to family and raising kids in our new country. SSKNA raised funds to help orphans and displaced refugees by LRA attacks in refuge camps in Northern Uganda where Sudanese refugees were hosted. Now with peace and free South Sudan, SSKANA focus will be to strengthen our families and communities in the USA and Canada. In good and bad times the community needs would be addressed by the SSKNA in the regional level.
Our Mission
SSKANA’s mission is to promote education of children and empower women in the community, to preserve the environment and our rich cultural heritage with mainstream American society to ensure all Kuku members residing in both North America and Kajo-Keji are actively involved and share mutual respect.
Our Goals:
- To promote and sustain Kuku culture and tradition in North America.
- To promote education of children, afterschool programs and women empowerment in the community.
- To engage members in community services.
- To promote community development, social and health outreach for women.
- To preserve the environment, introduce modern agricultural practices and offer water treatment services and access to clean water.

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors shall consist of the Chairman, Secretary and three members with gender balance. Each member must come from Washington State, Oregon and Vancouver, BC. The Executive Board and the Board of Directors shall serve without pay and consists of up to eight (8) volunteers of the association.
